INTRODUCTION

Hi everyone! My name is Agung Sadewo Parmanto, i am a UI/UX Designer. Currently working on design project for Dunia games. Largest gaming community held by Telkomsel.

OVERVIEW

Dunia Games is Indonesia’s most reliable gaming news portal. Platform who made for gamers, it have the latest infos of video game, gaming industry, eSports, tech, and pop culture. Also Dunia Games offer many features in it, such as gaming news, community, top up, livestream, video, creating various tournament, and chatting to other gamers.

DESIGN PROCESS

Dunia games wants to build livestream platform. Because gamers are known with their strong community. The design process in UI/UX involves a series of steps that are followed to create a user-centered and visually appealing digital product. Here are the steps that I used for this design :

Methodology

The method used in this process is qualitative research using a design thinking approach.

Research Goals

The research goals revolve around understanding the needs, behaviors, and preferences of the target users in order to create effective and satisfying digital experiences. These are my research goals:

  • Knowing the problems of users when using Dunia Games website and app.
  • Knowing user behavior while using Dunia Games platform (what they do, what they want, what they need)
  • Knowing user needs how they manage to do livestream
  • Knowing user needs and behaviour when they watch livestream video

Research Questions

Some general questions will be asked to the respondent before the assignment begins. Here’s the question:

Livestreamer :

  • On which platforms do you usually stream?
  • How do you do a livestream?
  • What do livestreamer need to know when they stream?
  • Are you familiar with DG website and app?
  • etc

User :

  • On which platforms do you usually watch livestream?
  • What do you do on watching livestream?
  • Are you familiar with DG website and app?
  • What do you think when DG launch livestream?

Design Thinking

Design thinking is a human-centered approach to problem-solving that used to create innovative and effective solutions. It is a process that focuses on understanding the needs and perspectives of the users, identifying the underlying problems, and exploring and testing different solutions.

When it comes to UI UX design, it can help designers create products that are intuitive, engaging, and user-friendly. Design thinking in UI/UX design involves the following stages:

  1. Emphatize

The first stage of design thinking is to empathize with the users. These involves understanding their needs, goals, and pain points. It can be done through user research, surveys, interviews, and observations. For this research I used zoom, discord and google forms to collect data from the respondents.

2 — Define Phase

The second step in this process would involves understanding the user’s needs, defining the problem, and establishing clear objectives for the design project. So we made How Might We (HMW) questions to exploring possibilities or potential solutions to a design problem.

a. User Persona

The purpose of creating user personas is to better understand the users of a product or service. I also used this to inform my design decisions, considering how the persona would use the product or service, what features and functionality of user’s, and how they would interact with the interface.

3. Ideate

In this stage, I create low-fidelity prototypes to test the ideas and validate the assumptions. This makes improvements also involves brainstorming, sketching, and creating rough prototypes. Before designing first i need to know how livestream works, so i compare by checking these platform (Youtube, Twitch, Nimo)

Nimo

By gathering information with these 3 platform and user needs in DG user interviews i’ve manage to create these informational architecture that Dunia Games livestream platform need.

Design Style-Guide

A design style-guide is a set of guidelines that provides direction and consistency for design elements, including typography, color schemes, layout, iconography, and interactions.

For Dunia Games itself they uses basic colors for their website so I made a design/style-guide based on their design system.

High Fidelity Design

High Fidelity design refers to the process of creating a digital product that has a high level of detail, accuracy, and realism. This design process typically involves multiple rounds of feedback and revisions to refine the design until it meets the user’s needs.

Prototype

Prototype is a preliminary version or mockup of a product or application that is used to test and refine its design. A prototype can be created using various methods and tools, such as pen and paper sketches, digital wireframes, or interactive mockups. With prototype, I can experiment with different layouts, features, and interactions to find the best solution for the user’s needs.

Testing

The final stage of design thinking is testing. It refers to the process of evaluating the user interface and user experience of a website, application, other digital product to identify any usability issues, user pain points, or other areas for improvement.

a. Usability Testing

After prototyping and connecting all the displays, it’s time to test the product with users. My goal is to evaluate new designs to users. This process is done online through the zoom application. User must share screen during task execution.

b. Task Given

These tasks involve creating an interactive and intuitive digital experience for users. The tasks can vary depending on the stage of the design process. Here is some tasks that I have made according to a scenario that has been created:

SUMMARY INSIGHT

Based on the UT results, the user successfully completes all tasks properly. From a scale of 1–5, which means that can be said it’s quite successful and suitable the needs of the user.

Even though the percentage has reached 93.3%, it would be nice if all kinds of input from users could be taken into consideration for making improvements so the efficiency and ease of use of this website can still be reached.

WHAT I LEARNED

During this portfolio process, one of the things I learned was the user’s point of view such as how to find a good solution for them so their experience in using the product becomes more efficient also enjoyable.

I realized that there is much to be improved from this case study so I really appreciate any constructive criticism and suggestions from all of you who took the time to read this article.

Thank you in advance!
